.Shop
The DotShop® GbR intends to run the generic top level domain (gTLD) .shop of the Domain Name System of the Internet.
We will work towards having .shop included in the root zone according to the rules set forth by ICANN and be delegated the management of this gTLD.
While current gTLDs tend to focus on a vertical groups (e.g. network providers, organisations, museums, cooperatives, etc.) or regional groups within the global Internet, .shop will embrace a horizontal perspective, with a clear brand to reach and enrich the broad global community.
Unlike country code TLDs also, which target a local audience, .shop will allow the user to express a international community relevance.
The commercial community is large and global. It ranges from top international affiliated groups to millions of large and small retails all over the world. The .shop domain can be naturally used by individuals, businesses, organisations as well as community groups, promoting a diverse and dynamic community within the .shop namespace.
“Shop” is also a word used in many languages. Even if the word "Shop" is used in main anglophone countries, the word "Shop" is mainly understood by everyone. So, unlike other top level domains which are mostly meaningful in the English language, .shop aims at reaching across borders, cultures and languages, true to the values of the commercial community.
